How EU pet import rules work
All EU member states follow harmonised pet import regulations for animals arriving from non-EU countries like Australia. The core requirements are identical whether you're moving to France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Austria or any other EU country.
Australia is classified as an unlisted third country under EU rules — meaning the full rabies titre test process applies. This is the same classification that requires the 3-month preparation timeline.
UK is separate: Since Brexit, the United Kingdom has its own health certificate and preparation process, different from EU rules. See the dedicated UK page for details.
The EU preparation sequence (all destinations)

Microchip
ISO 15-digit microchip must be implanted before any vaccination. Non-negotiable.

Primary rabies vaccination
Documented with microchip number, vet practice details, vaccine batch number and expiry.
After microchip
3
RNATT titre test
Blood drawn at an EU-approved laboratory. Must show ≥0.5 IU/ml result. Performed minimum 30 days after primary vaccination.
30+ days after vaccination
4
21-day wait
Mandatory wait after titre test result is confirmed. The EU clock starts from the titre test result date, not the blood draw.
21 days minimum

EU health certificate
Issued by an accredited Australian vet in EU format. Must be endorsed by DAFF (Australian government) — allow 5–10 business days.
Within 10 days of travel

Arrival at EU Border Inspection Post
Your pet is inspected at an approved BIP in France, Germany, Netherlands, or other EU entry point. Rosardi confirms BIP availability before booking.
