How Australia classifies countries for pet imports

Australia's Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) divides the world into categories for pet imports. Your pathway to Australia depends entirely on which country your pet is coming from.

Note: All non-NZ pets must serve quarantine at the Melbourne Mickleham Quarantine Facility (generally 10 days). Rosardi is based 30 minutes from Mickleham and manages collection, post-quarantine transport, and all coordination.

Core requirements for all imports to Australia

  • ISO 15-digit microchip
  • Current rabies vaccination (most countries)
  • Rabies neutralising antibody titre test (RNATT) — ≥0.5 IU/ml
  • Mandatory waiting period after titre test (varies by country)
  • Australian import permit
  • Health certificate in approved DAFF format
  • Treatment for internal and external parasites
  • Heartworming documentation
  • Tick treatment (in some cases)
